Frequently asked questions

How much does a certified translation cost?

The price depends on the document, the language pair, the number of words or pages, the format required and the deadline. Send us your document and we will reply with a free quote.

How do I send my documents?

Attach a scan or clear photo to the contact form, send it by email to info@abc-offices.com or via WhatsApp to +1 315 820 1187.

Can you help me if I live outside The Gambia?

Yes. Many of our clients live in Europe, the United States and elsewhere. We handle the work in The Gambia and send the documents to you by courier.

Does The Gambia issue apostilles?

The Gambia's National Assembly ratified the Apostille Convention in 2026. Contact us for the current status – we always use the procedure the receiving country accepts, either apostille or legalization.

Which languages do you work with?

English, Wolof, Mandinka, Fula, Jola, Serer, Serahule, Aku, French, Arabic, Spanish, Portuguese, German, Italian, Dutch, the Scandinavian languages, Chinese, Turkish, Russian and more.

How fast can you deliver?

A simple certified translation can often be ready within one to two working days. Legalization depends on the ministry and embassy concerned. Express service is available.

Are my documents safe with you?

Yes. Documents are handled confidentially, stored securely and used only for your order.

How can I pay?

Payment options are explained in your quote and include bank transfer and other common methods.

Certified translation

Which documents do you translate?

Birth, marriage and death certificates, diplomas and transcripts, police certificates, court documents, contracts, medical reports, bank statements, company documents and almost any other document.

Will my certified translation be accepted abroad?

Requirements differ by country and institution. Tell us where you will use the document and we will prepare it in the accepted format, including notarisation or legalization if needed.

Can I send a scan instead of the original?

Yes. For most certified translations a clear scan or photo is enough. Some authorities require the translation to be attached to the original or a certified copy, which we can also arrange.

Apostille

Can I get an apostille in The Gambia?

The Gambia's parliament ratified the Apostille Convention in 2026. Contact us for the current situation – if apostilles are not yet available for your document, we complete the legalization route instead so it is still accepted abroad.

What is the difference between an apostille and legalization?

An apostille is a single certificate valid between Convention countries. Legalization is a chain of stamps from the issuing country's ministry and the destination country's embassy, used when one of the countries is not part of the Convention.

Do I need a translation as well?

Often yes. Many countries require a certified translation of the document and sometimes of the apostille itself. We can deliver everything as one package.

Embassy & consulate legalization

How long does legalization take?

It depends on the ministry and on the embassy involved. Some embassies process documents in a few days, others take several weeks. We give you a realistic timeline with your quote.

Which embassies can you work with?

We work with embassies and consulates represented in Banjul and, through our network, with missions accredited to The Gambia from Dakar and other capitals.

I live abroad. Can you legalize my Gambian documents?

Yes. Many of our clients are Gambians living in Europe and the United States. We handle the process in The Gambia and send the legalized documents to you by courier.

Notary services

Do I need to attend in person?

For signatures, affidavits and powers of attorney the signatory normally has to appear before the notary with valid ID. For certified true copies we need the original document.

Can you notarise documents in other languages?

Yes. We provide a translation so the notary and the signatory understand the content, and a certified translation for the receiving authority if needed.

Will the notarised document be valid abroad?

Usually it must also be authenticated and legalized or apostilled. We tell you which steps your destination country requires and handle them for you.

Certified true copies

How many certified copies can I get?

As many as you need. Many clients request several sets when applying to more than one university or employer.

Can you certify a copy from a scan?

No. To certify a copy as true, the notary must see the original document.

Is a certified copy accepted by embassies?

Most embassies accept certified copies for supporting documents, but some require legalization of the certification. We check this with you before we start.

Power of attorney

I live abroad – can I give a power of attorney for The Gambia?

Yes. You can sign it before a notary where you live and we arrange the apostille or legalization and translation so it is valid in The Gambia, or we prepare it here for you to sign at an embassy.

What information is needed?

Full names and ID details of you and the person you appoint, and a clear description of the powers granted, for example the property address or the bank account concerned.

Can a power of attorney be cancelled?

Yes. A power of attorney can normally be revoked. We can prepare the revocation and notify the relevant parties.

Document retrieval

What do you need from me?

Usually a copy of your ID, a signed authorisation letter and the details needed for the application, such as place and date of birth or the case number.

Can you retrieve documents if I am outside The Gambia?

Yes. This service is designed especially for Gambians and foreigners living abroad.

How long does it take?

It depends on the issuing office. We give you an estimated timeline with your quote and keep you informed at each step.

Interpreting

How early should I book an interpreter?

As early as possible, ideally a few days ahead. For conferences or rare languages please contact us at least two weeks before the event. We also handle urgent requests whenever we can.

Can you provide interpreters outside the Greater Banjul Area?

Yes. We send interpreters to all regions, including Farafenni, Janjanbureh and Basse, and can also interpret remotely.

Are interpreters bound by confidentiality?

Yes. All our interpreters follow strict confidentiality and impartiality rules.
